Dorothy Carbonell Award
November 2021 - A Single Thread

The competition is open to all members of the Winchester Textile and Embroidery Group. Everyone who would like to take part should make one piece of work inspired by the title 'A Single Thread'. Please bring your completed piece to our November meeting where the competition will be judged by Tracy Chevalier, author of the book A Single Thread, who will be our speaker that day.

The title, 'A Single Thread', can be taken literally and a single thread could be used throughout the piece. This thread could be an embroidery thread, wool, wire, a thread made from a strip of fabric or paper, etc. Or, rather than just using one thread, a particular thread could be running through your piece rather like a motif in a piece of music. The title could also be interpreted as a thread of memory or the thread of an idea running through the piece. Your piece can be in any technique, framed or unframed, 2D or 3D.

Awarded to: 1st - Jill Fry ; 2nd - Ann Wheeler ; 3rd - Nikki Gage. Images of entries can be seen in the Gallery: competitions
